Bowling Green State University
Alumni Men's Chorus

Mission
The Bowling Green State University Men's Chorus Alumni Society program exists to provide a full spectrum of assistance and support of the continuing success of the BGSU Men's Chorus and University at large which, in turn, results in responsive programs, diverse activities, services and enriched camaraderie for alumni.

Article I
Name

This organization will be named the Bowling Green State University Men's Chorus Alumni Society and will be refereed throughout this constitution as BGSUMCAS.

Article II
Membership

All persons who have participated in the BGSU Men's Chorus regardless of having graduated from BGSU, attended BGSU at least one year fully as an accredited student, all persons who have
received honorary degrees from BGSU and this shall include accompanists, advisors, and directors.

Article III
Purpose

This organization is formed to cooperate with the general Alumni Association of Bowling Green State University in fostering a spirit of fraternity and loyalty among the graduates and former students of BGSU and particularly the success of the Bowling Green State University Men's Chorus. Additionally, to encourage and coordinated activities and concerts with the Alumni Men's Chorus for graduates and former students in the welfare of the University and the BGSUMC. The society will also promote, through cooperation with the general Alumni Association closer fellowship among alumni, current students and prospective students to BGSU

Article IV
Organization

Section A: Board of Trustees
1. The governing body of the BGSUMCAS will be a seven member Board of Trustees consisting of a Chairman, Director of Alumni Chorus, Secretary & Public Relations, Treasurer, Scholarship & Recruitment, Event officer, Men's Chorus Representative.

Chairman

  • Presides over planning committee.
  • Arranges minimum of one organizational meeting or at least one society event.
  • Will be the executive officer of the alumni society and alumni chorus for : financial contracts that will bind the society into an agreements and minor executive decisions.
  • Serves as the liaison to the Office of Alumni affairs.
  • Coordinates annual calendar of events and oversees society event officers.
  • Submits annual activity report to Office of alumni affairs.

    Director of Alumni Chorus


  • Presides over the repertoire and direction of Alumni Chorus.
  • Position will be appointed and approved annually by the Board of Trustees. (not an elected position)
  • Will run all rehearsals or assign assistant director to alumni chorus.
  • Will assist chairman and events officer with coordination of concert venues.

    Secretary & Public Relations

  • Submits minutes of each planning committee meeting to the Office of Alumni Affairs.
  • Maintains and updates society alumni lists: notifies the Office of Alumni Affairs of address changes.
  • Organizes telephone, website, list procs and mailings to publish upcoming events.
  • Publicizes events through local media.
  • Submits information for publication in At BG and event wrap-up for publication in Falcon Flight Line.

    Treasure

  • Keeps financial records.
  • Sets up and maintains financial accounts.
  • Oversees any fundraising or dues program and consults the office of Alumni Affairs on these matters.
  • Will coordinate with Chairman the production of CD Recordings and other clothing merchandise.

    Scholarship & Recruitment

  • Organizes Alumni Society Scholarship Committee.
  • Publicizes the scholarship through appropriate channels.
  • Distributes application forms to outstanding members of the BGSUMC.
  • Reviews applicants and selects recipient with committee.
  • Scholarship committee will be comprised of these initial members: Chairman, Scholarship & Recruitment, Current BGSUMC Director, Treasurer, Men's Chorus Representative. Others may be added at the discretion of Scholarship & Recruitment Board member. Committee must always be an odd number of members.

    Event Officer

  • Organizes specific events. (at least one concert by the alumni chorus should be planned.)
  • Can create up to four committees to serve in the assistance of event planning and implementation.
  • Submits detailed list of alumni attending each event to the Office of Alumni Affairs prior to each event..

    Men's Chorus Representative


  • Will be the liaison between the BGSUMCAS and the current Men's Chorus.
  • This position is term limited to 2 years by the BGSUMC constitution.
  • Will be permitted to sing with the alumni chorus. Only active BGSUMC member that is permitted.
  • Will assist the Secretary & Public Relations board member with newsletters and recent information regarding the activities, concerts & tours of the current BGSUMC.
  • Will supply the names and addresses of recent graduates and transfer students of the BGSUMC for databases.

    Section B: Annual Meetings
    1. The BGSUMCAS will hold a minimum of one annual meeting at a time specified by the board of trustees.
    A. A business meeting will be held for the purpose of electing the board of trustees each year. (date to be determined by the Board of Trustees)
    B. A general meeting will be held at least once a year for the Alumni Chorus to perform.
    2. Additional events and concerts are recommended but not required.

Section C: Voting
1. Each board member will have no more than one vote, in the case of a tie, if an abstentions occurs, Chairman will cast the tie breaking vote.
2. By-Laws can be approved by a majority vote of the Board of Directors.
3. By-Laws can be added or take away by the general assembly by a majority vote of registered society members.

Article V
By-Laws

Such by-laws may be adopted from time to time as shall be deemed advisable by the society's Board of Directors. Any member may recommend to the Board of Directors the creation and implementation of a new by-law.
